Résumé
The article explores whether Qur'anic schools compete with formal primary public schools or complement them in Senegal. It presents an analysis of a survey designed to resurvey pupils who took school attainment tests during a previous PASEC Senegal survey to compare trends in enrollment by age cohort in neighborhoods with and without formal schools. It reveals that formal school openings increase the highest grade attended in formal schools and decrease the number of years in Qur'anic school.
