Résumé
A recent article on child mortality in Senegal attested a reduction of rural excess mortality, and attributed this in large part to the development of infrastructures and health programmes. Richard Lalou and Thomas Legrand discuss here the causes of such excess mortality, and complete the preceding analysis by investigating the role played by unequal access to health care and by urban-rural socio-economic differentials respectively.
